Nathan Suter

Name:  Nathan Suter
Age:  18
Apprenticeship:  Advanced Apprenticeship:  Engineering

When Nathan was at school he had the opportunity to study for a GCSE in Engineering.  He enjoyed the course so much he decided he wanted a career in engineering, so enrolled on a National Diploma course at South down’s College.  It was while Nathan was at College that he found out about Apprenticeships.  Nathan comments.
“We were asked to make a presentation to local employers as part of our course work.  We had to talk about a project we had been working on.  After my presentation I was invited to an interview by Rimor Ltd, a precision engineering company based in Denmead.  Rimor were looking for two precision engineer apprentices.  The interview went well, and I was successful in gaining an apprenticeship with Rimor.  I started my training with PETA as soon as I finished college.  I’ll train for 5 days a week for 6 months before I move to the plant to continue my apprenticeship.”

“After completing my National Diploma I could have gone to University, or got a job but I wanted to continue training so I would be fully qualified.  In my opinion Apprenticeships are better than going to uni as you are getting paid, and gaining actual work experience.  I am currently training, and earning a weekly salary – which is great.   I would say to anyone thinking about doing an apprenticeship that they should contact a local training provider, and learn the basic knowledge of a particular trade or profession, and they’ll help you find a job that’s right for you.”
