DEBRA WITT studying BTEC National Performing Arts, AS/A levels in Psychology, English Language and Media Studies at Portsmouth College – previous school, Mayville High School

I have really enjoyed my Performing Arts course and also taking part in all the performance opportunities at College; Return to the Forbidden Planet, Rock Challenge and our shows in local schools. My aim is to become a secondary school teacher eventually, specialising in Drama. There’s a great atmosphere at College and plenty going on. I have also managed to keep up my job at Debenhams and community work at ‘Fat Café’.

Debra’s Tip: Keep an open mind when you join – it’s a small, relaxed college and easy to make new friends.

LLOYD O’NEIL Studying AS/A levels in Biology, Law, Psychology and Religious Studies at Portsmouth College – previous school, St Edmunds

I’ve really enjoyed Biology at College.  I’m very interested in how the body works and my longer term aim is to study Bio-Medical Science at university.  I was elected to be the Student Union President at the end of last year – hopefully you’ll come and meet the Union team when you visit for Open Evenings.  Although College keeps my busy I also have a part-time job at Currys and play football, tennis and chess.  I’m very happy to recommend the College to other people.  It has a really good set of courses and very friendly, sociable people – students and staff.

Lloyd’s Tip:  Make sure you do your research and make the right subject choices.  If you can find subjects you really enjoy, you’ll go well.

CALUM DONOGHUE studying AS/A levels in Media Studies, Photography, Film Studies and English Language at Portsmouth College – previous school: Priory.

I’ve just finished at College and I’m now off to Staffordshire University to train to be a broadcast journalist.  Media Studies and English Language have given me some really useful preparation for this degree course.  I also really enjoy the creative opportunities of Photography and for the past year I have worked as one of the College’s official photographers.  I’d recommend the College for its choice of subjects and friendly and helpful teachers.

Callum’s Tip:  Try to get the subject combination that takes you where you want to go but also gives you variety in your work.
